What were you up to today

Got on a boat,

After 15 hours got to Mannheim, and now at the Tug of War World Championships.

Coached a junior team from Cumbria this morning, coaching East Anglia this afternoon, and pulling in the 640kg tomorrow.
And made friends with the Mongolians, who have never been to an International competition before, so I helped them with a few things, and they were amazed at my ham and cheese roll for some reason

Celebrating a (small) success.
My new phone contract demanded Digital Voice. And for that, although the old phones work, the ansaphone did not. I was stuck in the dark ages, Using the clunky dial up, 1571 With no visuals that a message was there.
Anyhoo, I heard of an other user whose older kit worked. So I googled how to disable 1571. And apparently wot you do ( is not buy a new digital compliant phone, as instructed ) but to extend the time until the 1571 ansaphone kicks in, to 10 rings. Then set your old kit to 5 rings. And yeeehah, it works.
I have my old kit back, with a flashing red light if someone has left a message. ๐Ÿ‘ And if they havenโ€™t left a message, I donโ€™t want to know.

Just to clarify, did you get off the boat in Mannheim, or was other transport involved. I went to Mannheim once, to tour a tractor factory, I do seem to remember that some tractors were transported away on boats but just looking it up on Google maps it looks a hell of a long way to the coast by river?

I find no answer phone is much much better

Today I was mainly getting wet when I was hoping to be baling silage ๐Ÿ˜• Itโ€™s been drizzling to raining all day long with poor visability.

1st world problem this:
Child#1 started high school this week, and Mrs SJY had a convo with him last night about mobile phones. Heโ€™s feeling left out because โ€˜everybody elseโ€™ at school has a phone, but we donโ€™t want to get him one yet because he doesnโ€™t actually need one and the dangers of social media (and cost). She also explained to him that he could always use his iPad (which heโ€™s had for a few years and which we are ALWAYS on at him to pick up off the floor or else someone will stand on it) to message or email friends.
This evening (with remarkable timing) heโ€™s put his iPad on the floor then stood on it ๐Ÿ™„.

Thatโ€™s going to be a hard lesson learned, cos we ainโ€™t buying him a new one!

Decided it was time for a trip to Gisburn. Found 9 blues that were looking the part ๐Ÿ˜ Another good trade with an average of ยฃ401 (4 bulls, 5 heifers).

Went a fair way towards paying for the 4 new calved heifers I brought home ๐Ÿซฃ

We reluctantly bought number 3 a phone last week. All his homework, and communications with teachers and school are via the internet now he's started secondary school ๐Ÿ™„
He's been very good so far, and has set an alert to power off his phone when he gets up. School confiscate any phones seen or heard in school time and they have to be collected by a parent if they do get confiscated.
But yes, I'd much rather they didn't have a phone until they're much older ๐Ÿคจ
In case anyone is wondering, he's settling in pretty well for being the only one from his school that went ๐Ÿ˜Š

How's number 2 getting on this time?

I hate phones and digital stuff with a passion, tell the young fella he can get any phone he wants.

And he can buy it with his own money and pay his own prepay plan.
Equally suggest the rules he's allowed to use it and remind him with the threat that from the South Pole comes the Anti Santa, who takes items of joy in the middle of the night from misbehaving children and teenagers, and quite frequently yelling "Oh oh oh" in a foreign accent.*

*Don't tempt fate because the Anti Santa is actually "real". ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dunno if itโ€™ll be worth getting a third party repair done on the iPad screen (at expense of his pocket money)- Apple donโ€™t seem to repair that model anymore even though itโ€™s only 3 yrs old ๐Ÿ™„

Yes- I see there are two or three places on one of the dodgy streets in Newcastle.
I donโ€™t know if itโ€™s worth it- I had a screen replaced on a phone a few years ago at one of those places but it was never the same- the phone got a load of fluff in somehow and into the camera, making everything like taking a photo through fog๐Ÿ™„
