Let's start with the parlour..... where I perform my greatest work.
32/64 swing over. Westfalia Metatron 12 meters, direct to line.
The cows love the rubber flooring 😍20200519_192325.jpg
The red bar lifts off so that when we bring the crocks and new calved cows in from the pen at the front of the parlour, we just pull the front rail out and turn them round.20200519_192301.jpg

:praise: Wow some parlour, how many an hour roughly? No feeders

Oh and meet our latest arrival, not the most valuable bull calf mind, just call it Spottie.
His mother is the last to calve of 10 heifers we had down from a Macclesfield farm about a fortnight ago 20200918_180252.jpg

Aah, the old "how many per hour" question 😁
With the wind behind us we could do 170-180. 2 in pit, full routine (dry wipe, strip out and spray afterwards)
However, as is usually the case, something comes along to cock it up. Even though we don't feed in the parlour, our cows are the biggest dopes ever. They don't come in (even with a backing gate), don't go out, don't get off the rubber at the front, causing a jam which makes them crap, then you're held up swilling. Or they turn round to fight with the ones still coming out. Dump bucket, tubing things, new calved cows, getting heifers to let down, flies causing quite a few reattaches 🙄 Will be nearer 140 on average.

Do you fancy keeping him as a future gene pool ;)

I think he must be from their sweeper bulls which were a couple of x breds., the earlier calving ones were to sexed..

Always two of you in that parlour surely?

Oh yes. And occasionally a child to send cows out, spray teats and keep me in brews 😁
I do 13 (apart from a lie in once a week), then there are 5 milkers over a fortnightly rota and the boss a few times (he's usually scraping, bedding and feeding)

We've some new blood coming sometime this next week. He's a bit older, so should deal with the cows better than these youngsters that fall off ☹
And we've kept a Fred son to grow on for next year 🙂
